Introduction
A. P. J. Abdul Kalam was one of India’s most respected scientists and leaders. Known as the Missile Man of India, he played a major role in India’s missile and nuclear programs. He later became the 11th President of India (2002–2007) and was loved as the “People’s President.”
Early Life and Education
Born on October 15, 1931, in Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu, Abdul Kalam came from a humble background. He studied physics and later aerospace engineering from the Madras Institute of Technology. His passion for science shaped his future career.
Contribution to ISRO
Kalam joined the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), where he worked on India’s first Satellite Launch Vehicle (SLV-III). Under his leadership, India successfully launched the Rohini satellite in 1980, marking a milestone in India’s space history.
Missile Development Program
Later, he joined the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and led the Integrated Guided Missile Development Program.
